The Golf Courses of Vancouver Island
Bear Mountain Resort - Mountain Course

Bear Mountain Resort
Mountain Course

Bear Mountain Resort is home to Vancouver Island's only Jack and Steve Nicklaus co-designed golf course - The Mountain Course at Bear Mountain.

You could argue for hours about whether Tiger or Jack is the top golfer of all time, but there is no doubt about who is the most influential. Nicklaus is now one of the game's premier course designers, noted for the incredibly high quality and inventiveness of his layouts. Bear Mountain Golf and Country Club is a wonderful example of Nicklaus design, costing approximately one million dollars a hole, funded by a coalition of former and current National Hockey League stars. After opening in the summer of 2003, the Mountain course was rated the #1 new course in Western Canada and 2 years later, #1 golf course in all of Canada. One can only imagine it's new sister course - the Valley Course will be the perfect complement when it debuts all 18 holes in this Spring.

Located twenty minutes north of downtown Victoria, the stunning, 1,500-acre property is a natural wonder of rocks, rivers, valleys, forests, and mountain peaks, and Nicklaus has stamped the landscape with his indelible paw print. At Bear Mountain, Nicklaus has accomplished the rare feat of making the course a tough challenge for the low handicappers while offering the ordinary golfer an enjoyable test.

Keep an eye out for the tiny treat that Nicklaus devised while making a site inspection. He discovered a tiny spur of land that jutted out above the fourteenth green, figured it was the perfect spot for a betting hole, and shoe-horned in a wonderful 141-yard, par three Bear Mountain’s nineteenth hole. The green seems to float in between some of the Island’s most spectacular scenery, ringed by the Pacific Ocean, the Olympic Mountains, Mount Baker, and the city of Victoria quite a foursome.

The Bear Mountain Resort- Mountain Course is a legendary course created by a legendary designer and together with it's new sister course - the Valley Course, are cornderstone to Bear Mountain Resort's premiere master-planned resort community. Bear Mountain Resort's lush mountainside community defines resort living with a montage of residential and vacation real estate opportunities as well as The Westin Bear Mountain Victoria Golf Resort & Spa. Medical and traditional aesthetics at the Santé Spa ranked one of the top ten medical spas in the world by SpaFinder, a dining mecca with eclectic and world-class restaurants, the state-of-the-art Mountainside Athletic Club, a Nicklaus Golf Academy (coming in 2010) and The Village round out the complete lifestyle experience, all within minutes of the beautiful seaside harbour of Victoria, British Columbia.
